The women's soccer team defeated Lipscomb 2-0 in their last home game of the season, a bittersweet moment for the team's veterans. The day was dedicated to the six seniors on the team: Stephanie Webb, Frances Ching, Cleo Collange, Rachael Sweeney, Sarah Isley, and Bethany Kiedis. Stephanie Webb, who was forced to sit out much of the season after injuring her knee, was received loud cheers as she finished out the first half and carried into the second. The Hatters' first goal was scored in the thirty-sixth minute when Tessa Gavilsky delivered a pass across the field to Emily Ware, who slammed a strong, low shot into the net. Emily Yero had the assist on the second goal, sending the ball to Gavilsky in the fifty-second minute to secure the 2-0 victory. Gavilsky has tallied a total of 27 points this season, two more than the previous Hatters record, which was held by Melissa This and Kristy Porcelli, and is within reach of the Hatters record of 12 goals in a season, a record which is also held by Porcelli. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia had her 4th shutout of the season; her three others have been against Tennessee Tech, JU, and against Lipscomb during a game in the 2007 season. This Sunday afternoon also brought Hatters coach Julie Orlowski her 100th win in her career. She reached her 8th season for Stetson and 14th overall. Orlowski seemed unaware of the occasion until the end of the game, when athletic director Jeff Altier came over to congratulate her. The Hatters, who stand at 6-7-2 overall and 4-3-0 in the Atlantic Sun conference, will finish their season with their last game on November 1st at Florida Gulf Coast at 5 PM.
